Use without printing: Follow the included drawing-only route while viewing the guide on screen. Recreate the measured square and motifs on plain paper or in a drawing app, then explore the translation, rotation and reflection patterns. Keep the stated measurements for physical construction; a digital viewer's zoom level is not an actual-size measuring guide.

Turn one square into a repeating pattern with four original, guided paper-design projects. Tessellation Tile Design Workshop combines measured templates, construction diagrams, worked examples and practice space for exploring how neighboring shapes fit.

Four projects

  • Stepped Streams: cut and slide one edge piece to its opposite side, then repeat the tile by translation.

  • Pocket Lanterns: exchange both pairs of opposite edges using two separate cut-and-slide moves.

  • Quarter Turn Garden: keep the square border intact and rotate the interior motif through a planned quarter-turn arrangement.

  • Mirror Sprigs: alternate a motif and its left-right reflection inside unchanged square borders.

Supplies and printing

You will need a device that opens ZIP files, a PDF reader and printer, paper, pencil, eraser and a ruler with millimeter markings. For the cut-and-slide route, add paper scissors and clear tape. Colored pencils, a fine pen, extra paper and printer-compatible lightweight card are optional. No specialist design software is needed.

Choose the edition that matches your paper and print single-sided at Actual size / 100%. Check the included 50 mm calibration line and template before cutting. Black-and-white printing works. These are static, non-fillable PDFs.

Suggested for confident beginners who can measure and follow a short sequence. Precise cutting and alignment take practice. Use adult cutting support when needed; the drawing-only route avoids cutting.

Digital download and permitted use

No physical item is shipped. Supplies, editable source files and software are not included. The first gallery image is an illustrative craft scene; physical props are not included. The other gallery images show actual workshop pages.
